My ceramic art encompasses both functional and sculptural work.  Combining altered wheel-thrown pieces and hand-building, I often work as if I were creating a three-dimensional collage, putting sections together, adding or subtracting elements in context.

For me, working with clay is a creative outlet and a spiritual journey.  Ceramics inspires in me a respect for process and dedication to a goal without being attached to results.  I may start with an idea for a particular piece, but as I navigate through the process, the clay often takes on a life of its own, and the outcome is very different from my original intention.  The difference between being disappointed by this, or astonished by it is, for me, the secret to a fulfilling, creative life.

Teri Hannigan is Clayhalo.

The practical side of me loves making functional pieces for everyday use.  But I also love creating sculpture that explores different aspects of my journey as an artist and as a woman.

I accept commissions for both sculpture and functional pieces.  Just email me!
